Use of Landiolol for Patients With Septic Shock and Organ Failure –Reply

In Reply We thank Dr Mantzarlis and colleagues for their interest in the STRESS-L study. It is worth highlighting that our research hypothesis was that more selective β1-receptor blockade would bring about myocardial protection and immunomodulation to confer benefits to a high-risk population with septic shock. Tachycardia was used as a surrogate to define this high-risk population. We did not mandate Svo2 or other cardiac output monitoring in our protocol. The trial was stopped after only 126 of a planned 340 patients were recruited.
