Cancer genetic counselling for hereditary breast cancer in the era of precision oncology

Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequent malignant tumor in females, with an estimated worldwide incidence of 297,790 new cases in 2023 [1]. Conversely, BC is a rare disease in men, accounting for less than 1  % of all BC. About 5–10 % of female BC are associated with pathogenetic (P)/likely pathogenetic (LP) variants in predisposing genes [2], while in around 16 % of all male BC cases, pathogenic BRCA variants are detected, with BRCA2 being the most prevalent [3].
