Is Social Connection the Solution for Reducing Widower Suicide in Late Life?

According to the most recently published U.S. Census data, the age-adjusted mortality rate of widow(er)s was over double that of married adults [1]. Yet, mechanisms linking spousal bereavement to risk of death (including, but not restricting to suicide) remain a mystery [2].
