Anterior chamber cholesterol crystals in stage 5C retinopathy of prematurity

A 1-year-old girl was referred for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) with total retinal detachment and flat anterior chamber in her right eye (Figure A). The lens and preretinal fibrovascular tissue were then removed. Examination showed clear anterior chamber and open-funnel retina with subretinal cholesterol crystals six months after surgery (Figure, B). Five months later, sparkling substance was seen in the eye. Examination revealed anterior chamber sparkling crystals (Figure, C). A procedure of intraocular lavage was performed.
