Effect of Working with a Standardized Pediatric Patient on the Skills of Nursing Students in Preparing Children for a Medical Procedure

Simulation-based education is ideal for nursing education because it involves an interactive method that can be used to teach cognitive, psychomotor or affective skills to individuals or groups of any skill or proficiency level (Tanis, Quinn,& Bischoff, 2019). In a standardized patient simulation, the patient or case study is portrayed by playing the scenario prepared with structured steps. The use of standardized patients in teaching contributes to the development of the communication skills of students, history taking, and physical examination skills (Durmaz Edeer& Dicle, 2015).The concepts of illness and hospitalization for a child include experiences that cause fear and discomfort.
