Prospective study to analyze the synergistic effect of amoxicillin and lipopolysaccharide in basophil activation to improve the diagnosis of IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reactions to amoxicillin
Amoxicillin (AX) is the betalactam (BL) most frequently involved in IgE-mediated reactions. Basophil activation test (BAT) is a safe complementary in vitro tool for IgE-mediated reactions; however, its sensitivity is sub-optimal. This fact could be related to the requirement of including pathogen-derived molecules, as shown by a preliminary case-control study evaluating the synergistic effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and AX. Our aim was to perform a prospective real-life study to analyze if the inclusion of LPS in BAT could reproduce the acute phase of BL-allergic reactions and therefore increase its sensitivity.
