Age-related trends in unintentional injuries among children and adolescents in an urban Danish population 1980 –2021. A cohort study of 292,737 children and adolescents

Unintentional injuries among children and adolescents are common and remain a public health problem in many countries [1]. One-third of all children will sustain a fracture before the age 17 years [2 –4]. In 2018, approximately 300,000 children and adolescents aged 0–19 years were treated at the emergency departments (EDs) in Denmark because of injuries [5]. In 2006, a report from Denmark stated that 94 % of these visits to the EDs were due to unintentional injuries in children's spare time or at home [6].
