19. Telehealth Versus In-Person Instruction for Adolescents and Young Adults Initiating Gender-Affirming Testosterone Therapy
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the US healthcare system made significant shifts towards providing telehealth services. For the approximately 700,000 adolescents and young adults (AYA) aged 13-25 in the U.S. who identify as transgender and often face considerable barriers to receiving healthcare, opportunities arose to offer gender-affirming care via telehealth. One aspect of care that was often delivered in-person was testosterone injection teaching, and our center trained nurses to deliver injection teaching via a single video visit.
