FY 2021 federal research and development ( R&D ) obligations to the 14 Department of Defense designated University Affiliated Research Centers totaled $ 1.5 billion. Data are from the Survey of Federal Funds for R&D, conducted by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics within the National Science Foundation.
