Understanding how COVID-19 affected black pregnant women early in the pandemic: A cross-sectional survey

CONCLUSIONS: Despite being a relatively well-educated sample of Black women from around the United States, many respondents spoke of the fears of discrimination, the need for self-advocacy, and heightened anxiety, reinforcing that discrimination and fear of discrimation for Black women in healthcare settings are pervasive, regardless of a woman's level of education or other socioeconomic status indicators.IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: These findings suggest that in times of uncertainty, such as the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to provide thoughtful, supportive care to pregnant women of color who are primed for negative experiences in the healthcare settting.PMID:38184973 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2024.103915
