Understanding the Role of Resilience and Self-Compassion in Radiologist Well-Being

Burnout levels among radiologists have steadily increased in recent years, accompanied by a downward trend in job satisfaction and physician well-being [1]. One of the most studied coping strategies to mitigate burnout and increase overall well-being is resilience. Resilience is defined as the ability of individuals and groups to effectively respond to adversity [2]. In the social science and medical literature, resilience has been described in several ways. These include “the ability to bounce back or recover from stress, to adapt to stressful circumstances, to not become ill despite significant adversity, and to function above the norm in spite of stress or adversity” [3].
