Clinical pathologic conference case 2: expansile sclerotic lesion in the left maxilla

A nine-year-old male presented with expansion and mild pain of the left maxilla of unknown duration. The submitting clinician suspected fibrous dysplasia. The radiograph demonstrated a lesion of the left maxilla involving the entire superoinferior thickness of the maxilla with slight expansion into the sinus and extended from the lateral left maxilla to the midline. The internal structure was largely radiopaque and homogenous ( “ground glass”) and surrounded permanent and developing teeth without displacement (Figures 1 and 2).
