Mpox and herpes simplex virus type 2 coinfection in a patient with HIV

The emergence of mpox (MPX) on a global scale has become a major source of concern for patients and clinicians. Infection by this double-stranded DNA virus is characterized by a viral prodrome of flulike symptoms before the development of numerous firm, well-circumscribed papules, many of which become umbilicated and develop central erosions, ulcerations, or crust. Typical sites of involvement include the hands, feet, face, mouth, and anogenital region.
