Ten-year incidence, predictors and impact of dizziness and vertigo in community-dwelling adults

Dizziness is a general term for a sense of disorientation. Vertigo is a subtype of dizziness, which is classified as an illusion of movement, usually a sense of rotation [1,2]. Dizziness (including vertigo) affects about 15  % to over 20 % of adults yearly in large population-based studies [2]. Research into risk factors for dizziness/vertigo is only in its infancy, but so far a consistent association of vertigo and migraine has been reported, which has advanced the recognition of vestibular migraine as a distinct vestibular syndrome [2].
