Insights into the January 2024 Issue of the JOE
Vital pulp therapy techniques such as direct pulp capping aim to preserve the vitality and function of the dental pulp after injury resulting from trauma, caries, or restorative procedures. Over the years, different success rates of direct pulp capping have been reported among numerous studies with higher rates of success demonstrated in more recent studies. In this issue of the JOE, Ballal et al. (1) report the results of their randomized controlled trial of direct pulp capping in 96 patients (presenting with caries penetrating the entire thickness of the dentin with pulp exposure being unavoidable after complete excavation in an adult posterior; with no periodontal disease and no spontaneous pain emanating from the tooth in question).
