Low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue are the hallmarks of osteoporosis, a medical condition that results in brittle bone and elevates fracture risk. Osteoporotic fractures are a major health burden on the elderly population and the healthcare system, and this is especially true in South Korea [1,2], where the elderly population is growing at the fastest rate in the world [3].
