Translational research – Reducing the challenges of caregiving and managing children's chronic conditions

Caregivers of children with chronic conditions are challenged with the daily demands of managing their child's chronic condition at home and at school. Caregivers are challenged to adapt to and manage the chronic condition while teaching self-management skills to their child (Christian, 2016a). Caregivers must learn to balance the demands of the chronic conditions while coping with the stress of managing the child's chronic condition (Christian, 2010, 2016a, 2016b). In addition, children with chronic conditions are more vulnerable to stress because they must adapt to the demands of chronic condition while meeting their developmental demands at the same time.
