7.3 The Burden of Stigma for Youth With Substance Use Disorders

The discrimination and stigma faced by youth who suffer from substance use disorders (SUDs) is a barrier to social support, treatment, and education for them, their families, and our society at large. The quest to identify strategies to address these barriers is thus essential for public health. For this presentation, we explore the stigma associated with the diagnosis and treatment of SUDs in young people and interventions to reduce barriers to care.
