Idiopathic Familial Acro-osteolysis

A man in his 40s and his child presented to our hospital with complaints of weakness and pain in their fingers and feet for the previous 3 years. A physical examination revealed massive osteolysis of the parent and a number of mildly clubbed fingers in the child. The results of tests for antinuclear antibody (titer, 1:1280), anti –double-stranded DNA, antiribonucleoprotein, and anti-Scl-70 antibodies were negative. Radiographs of the parent showed sharply demarcated osteolysis of the middle and distal phalanges of the fingers on both hands and the feet (Figure A, B).
