Business Enterprise Research and Development : 2021

The tables in this report present data from the Business Enterprise Research and Development ( BERD ) Survey. The BERD Survey is the primary source of information on domestic and global research and development ( R&D ) expenditures and the R&D workforce for companies with 10 or more employees operating in the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The survey is conducted annually by the Census Bureau in accordance with an interagency agreement with the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics within the National Science Foundation. These data are used by government agencies, corporations, research organizations, and academics to assess trends in the performance and funding of R&D.
