Adaptation of the Interpersonal Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (IERQ) to Spanish in a Sample of Uruguayan University Students

The objective of this study was to translate the IERQ into Spanish and to analyse its psychometric properties in a non-representative sample of 323 Uruguayan university students (M  = 23.16; SD = 6.59). The evaluation of the construct validity through a confirmatory factor analysis reflected the same factorial structure as the original study and other adaptations (πœ’2(164, N = 323) = 452.10, p <  .000; πœ’2/df  = 2.76; RMSEA = 0.074, 95% [0.066, 0.082], CFI = 0.96; TLI = 0.95) and the reliability analyses using Cronbach’s Alpha showed indices ranging from acceptable to good (0.73 βˆ’β€‰0.89). In addition, discriminant and convergent validity analyses found congruent associations with rel ated constructs (e.g., personal emotional regulation), even though they were weak. Overall, the results showed that, in its Spanish version, the IERQ holds good psychometric properties, supporting its utility in various cultural groups.
