Assessing the safety of deep sedation in outpatient pediatric oral health care

CONCLUSION: This study suggests an AE (whether relatively minor or of potentially major consequence) occurs in 1 of every 12 DS cases involving pediatric patients, performed at an outpatient dental clinic. Larger studies are needed, in addition to root cause analyses.PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: As dentists increasingly pivot in the use of DS services from in-hospital to outpatient settings, patients expect comparable levels of safety. This work helps generate evidence to drive targeted efforts to improve the safety and reliability of pediatric outpatient sedation.PMID:37676186 | DOI:10.1016/j.adaj.2023.07.019
