Augmented reality cueing for freezing of gait: Reviewing an emerging therapy

Freezing of gait (FoG) is a common symptom of Parkinson's Disease (PD) that can decrease quality of life and cause devastating falls [1]. FoG is a sensation of being stuck in place or incapable of stepping despite the desire to do so [2]. It is commonly triggered by walking through doorways, turning, or beginning movement from a stopped state but can happen in open spaces without obstacles. The neural pathophysiology of FoG is poorly understood and it can present differently between individuals [1 –4].
