Age effects on motor threshold
Background: rTMS is a clinically effective antidepressant treatment in elderly patients1. The brain's cortical excitability depends on cortical thickness and the distance between the coil and the cortex. Both cortical thickness and the coil-cortex distance could be affected in elderly due to the cortical atrophy occurring with age2. However, previous studies3 –8 were inconsistent.
