Natural Language Processing tool accurately identifies acute venous thromboembolism
As of 2016, 1,200,000 DVT (deep vein thrombosis) and PE (pulmonary embolism) were diagnosed in the United States annually (collectively called venous thromboembolism (VTE)) [1]. Once VTE is diagnosed, an International Classification of Disease (ICD) code will be assigned which allows billing of the patient visit and identification of diagnoses within the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
