Anaesthesia for Caesarean Section in Patients with Vascular Ehlers Danlos Syndrome: Case Series
We report three consecutive cases of successful caesarean birth (CB) in patients with Type IV Vascular-type Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (VEDS), all of whom were co-managed by two tertiary National Health System hospital trusts in the United Kingdom in 2022. Vascular-type Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant genetic disorder resulting in structural abnormality of type-III collagen1; its prevalence is estimated to be 1:90 000.2 Pregnancy is not advised due to significant maternal mortality and risks of major arterial or venous dissection and uterine rupture.
