Association between endometriosis and risk of type 2 diabetes: Results from the prospective E3N cohort

Endometriosis is defined by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus. It is a chronic, inflammatory, and estrogen-dependent disorder affecting 10  % of fertile age women [1,2]. The disease is associated with signs and symptoms such as chronic pelvic pain and infertility [3]. Despite its high incidence and heavy burden on women's quality of life [4], the etiology of endometriosis is unknown. The early age at menarche, short menstrual cycle l ength, and lean body size [2] are the most consistently reported risk markers.
