Dementia Simulation Impact on Empathy of Nursing and Physical Therapy Students: A Quantitative Study

In 2019, there were 54.1 million Americans 65 years or older, with a projected increase to 80.8 million Americans over 65 years by the year 2040 (Administration  for Community Living, 2021). The Aging, Demographics, and Memory Study (ADAMs) estimates that 11% of people 65 years and older are living with a dementia (Hudomiet, Hurd,& Rohwedder, 2018). Dementia is an umbrella term for a cluster of symptoms resulting in difficulties with memory, language, problem-solving, and other cognitive skills (Alzheimer ’s, Association, 2023).
