The role of SERMs in menopausal hormonal treatment

Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs) are synthetic molecules that bind to the estrogen receptor and can have agonistic activity in some tissues while being antagonistic in others. While most clinicians are very familiar with older SERMs like tamoxifen and raloxifene, newer agents such as ospemifene and bazedoxifene offer other beneficial properties that should encourage their more widespread use to treat menopausal symptoms.
