Subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis caused by Alternaria section Alternaria

The dematiaceous fungal infection may cause a variety of clinical diseases. Once fungal organisms are introduced into the dermis, the clinical presentation may change based on the patient's immunity status [1]. Some dematiaceous fungi transition from their native filamentous and hyphal form to become rounded, septate, and pigmented spores that are known as sclerotic cells. This results in a chronic condition that is called chromoblastomycosis, which is usually observed in immunocompetent people.
