Update on Interventional Procedural Considerations for Tendinopathy

AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review article analyzes the procedural considerations for common interventional treatment options for tendinopathy such as platelet-rich plasma, shockwave therapy, and percutaneous needle tenotomy. The focus will be to provide a comprehensive summary of the available evidence-based recommendations for important pre-procedural and post-procedural considerations when performing these interventional treatments.Recent FindingsEvidence-based recommendations exist and are summarized for how different intrinsic patient factors, medications, dietary elements, exercise regimens, pre-procedural and post-procedural restrictions, and rehabilitation strategies may affect the outcome of platelet-rich plasma, shockwave therapy, and percutaneous needle tenotomy.SummaryThe outcomes after interventional treatments for tendinopathy are contingent on multiple factors. Knowledge of the evidence for certain important factors will help physicians make decisions that will lead to better patient outcomes. Many gaps in knowledge exist, and further research is needed to better quantify the effect on patients.
