Male Majority-Owned Microbusinesses Performed 80 % of Domestic R & D Costs

In 2020, male majority-owned microbusinesses ( businesses with one to nine employees ) performed 80 % of the total $ 5.6 billion of domestic research and development, while female majority-owned microbusinesses accounted for 9 % of the total. Data are from the 2021 Annual Business Survey : Data Year 2020, cosponsored by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics within the National Science Foundation and by the Census Bureau.
