Caudal epidural steroid injections with paracoccygeal injections for management of postpartum coccydynia

We report two cases of postpartum coccydynia for which invasive treatment with caudal epidural steroid injections (ESI) with paracoccygeal injections provided adequate pain relief and improvement in activities of daily life (ADLs). Coccydynia, or pain in the coccyx, can significantly affect ADLs and its prevalence is five-times higher in women compared with men, likely due to the straining of coccygeal ligaments or even fractures of the coccyx experienced during childbirth.1 –2 Other risk factors include higher body mass index, forceps-use during delivery, multiparity, age>40 years, and the coccyx morphology.
