Gingival fibroblast treatment of secondary osteoarthritis in dogs: early and one-year follow-up

Purpose: Treatments for osteoarthritis (OA) have no positive impact on cartilage regeneration and only target symptoms (to reduce pain mostly caused by joint inflammation). Recently, research on alternative treatments has led to the development of cell-based therapies, mainly in light of their possible regenerative potential. Current allogeneic cell therapy is limited by its half-life post-administration to subjects. After an injury, the gum regenerates ad integrum thanks to the gingival fibroblasts (GF) suggesting a perfect healing process.
