Benign fibrohistiocytic jaw lesions: a 48 year clinicopathologic analysis and review of the literature
Fibrohistiocytic and fibroxanthomatous lesions of bone encompass a broad spectrum of morphologic and radiographic presentations. Understandably, a plethora of descriptors and diagnoses have been used to classify these lesions. The rare gnathic forms are likewise subject to numerous taxonomic groupings and provide an additional challenge for definitive characterization. The World Health Organization (WHO) traditionally classified fibrohistiocytic tumors of bone as one of three entities with different presentations: Fibrous cortical defect (FCD), non-ossifying fibroma (NOF) or benign fibrous histiocytoma (BFH).
