The presence of a mechanical ventilator may limit communication between the patient and nurse. Communication difficulties are the leading problems reported by patients in the intensive care unit receiving mechanical ventilation support.1-2 This communication difficulty prevents the patient from reporting his or her needs, thereby affecting the patient's comfort.3
