Improved lateral penumbra for proton ocular treatments on a general-purpose spot scanning beamline
As many new proton therapy centers are coming online, treatments with high-energy general-purpose beamlines are essential to providing this valuable therapy for many patients with eye tumors. In an earlier research publication [1], we presented the design of an ocular applicator along with the associated eye gaze fixation and monitoring system on a spot-scanning beamline. Sharp lateral and distal penumbras are desired to spare normal tissue around the ocular targets and are a characteristic of dedicated ocular beamlines.
