Update on the systemic management of non-infectious uveitis in children and adolescents

Pediatric uveitis is a rare but treatable cause of visual impairment in children. Approximately 60% of children with uveitis will have associated systemic disease, most commonly rheumatological,35 and therefore thorough investigation is required in a child without a prior diagnosis. The most common type of uveitis seen in children is juvenile idiopathic arthritis-associated uveitis(JIA-U), often picked up on screening of an asymptomatic child.44 In this paper, we will use the term pediatric to refer to children and adolescents up to 18 years old.
