As members of UNISON working in the ambulance service took strike action across England on Wednesday, members in two hospitals in the North West region also walked out. Nurses at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital and the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital took to the picket lines in protest not only at low pay, but also to call for safe staffing levels and make clear who is to blame for the troubles facing the NHS.
