Current concepts in total knee arthroplasty

The general population is aging as life expectancy continues to increase in many parts of the world. Consequently, there has been an exponential rise in the prevalence of chronic degenerative diseases found in the elderly, including osteoarthritis. In turn, the burden of joint replacement surgery has significantly risen. The Covid-19 pandemic has left many countries now facing a massive backlog of patients awaiting their surgery for debilitating arthritis symptoms. Research into total knee replacement (TKR) is therefore important.
