Shoulder structure and function:  The impact of osteoarthritis and rehabilitation strategies

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a highly prevalent disease that significantly increases healthcare expenditures. Nearly half of Americans over the age of 65 have OA, and this rate continues to increase with the aging population.1 Those affected by OA frequently present with multiple co-morbidities, resulting in a decrease in function and further increasing healthcare utilization.2,3 The poor mobility, decreased function, and pain that manifest in OA can lead to a significant reduction in the quality of life.
