Clinicopathologic characterization of cutaneous adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma: A single tertiary care center experience in the United States
CONCLUSIONS: Pleomorphic large, atypical cells with CD4+/CD25+/CD7- immunophenotype from a non-"bathing trunk" location, especially in a patient from endemic regions, raise suspicion for ATLL. T-cell receptor gene rearrangement is almost always positive, and the neoplasm usually demonstrates multiple mutations by next-generation sequencing study.PMID:37830309 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad120 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Hemophagocyte morphology and hypertriglyceridemia correlate with diagnosis of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis in patients with bone marrow hemophagocytes
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of hypertriglyceridemia and more frequent gHPC has predictive value for HLH diagnosis in patients with bone marrow HPC.PMID:37833042 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad131 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)

Examining the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion in mitigating workforce burnout in laboratory medicine
CONCLUSIONS: Findings from this study highlight the urgent need for interventions to address burnout, discrimination, exclusion, and inequity in the laboratory workforce. Initiatives to increase workforce diversity, promote mentorship and diversity training programs, and improve recognition of the laboratory workforce are recommended. The results underscore the pressing need to addressing the challenges and apprehensions laboratory professionals face, including enhancing recognition of their role in patient care, tackling systemic problems related to discrimination and equity, and enhancing the provision of support and res...

Comparison of DNA methylation and cytology tests in urine to detect upper tract urothelial carcinoma: A paired-design diagnostic study
CONCLUSIONS: The test performance of DNA methylation was satisfactory. The DNA methylation test for the detection of upper tract urothelial carcinoma demonstrated better sensitivity than did cytology alone or cytology with FISH, but the accuracy of the combined tests was still acceptable. Further prospective studies with larger samples are needed to confirm the clinical value of this promising method.PMID:37793040 | DOI:10.1093/ajcp/aqad116 (Source: American Journal of Clinical Pathology)
