A Case of VIPoma in a Pregnant Woman
A VIPoma is a rare neuroendocrine tumour secreting vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) that has an incidence of 1 per 10 million per year, .1 Vasoactive intestinal peptide causes cardiovascular instability due to its vasodilatory effect on splanchnic and peripheral vascular beds. Direct gut effects of VIP lead to increased secretion of intestinal fluids, resulting in a syndrome of watery diarrhoea, achlorhydria, intestinal ileus, skin flushing and metabolic acidosis.2 –3 It is associated with several electrolyte disturbances including hypokalaemia, hypophosphataemia, hypomagnesaemia, and hypercalcaemia. Laparoscopic resection of VIPoma presenting at an unusual location
Ravi Kiran Thota, Srikanth GadiyaramJournal of Minimal Access Surgery 2022 18(3):475-477 VIPoma is an extremely rare neuroendocrine tumour. Majority of the lesions occur in the pancreas. There is usually a long and recurrent history of secretory diarrhoea. Current diagnostic methods help in diagnosing a VIPoma once it is suspected. We herein report a case of VIPoma which had the delay in diagnosis and presented at an extremely unusual location (pyloroduodenal) who underwent laparoscopic resection for the same. A clinical analysis on functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (focusing on VIPomas): a single-center experience
This study aimed to determine the diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics and prognosis of VIPomas and to compare them with other PanNETs at a Japanese reference hospital. Medical records of 293 patients with PanNETs were collected. Patient and tumor characteristics and outcomes were retrospectively reviewed. This cohort had only 1.4% (four patients) of patients with VIPomas, and three of these patients changed from non-functioning (NF-) PanNETs during their disease course. Recurrences of hormonal symptoms were observed in all patients despite the initial controls, and all of them died from their disease, more specifica...

VIPoma of the Pancreas
Praxis (Bern 1994). 2021 Sep;110(11):637-642. doi: 10.1024/1661-8157/a003714.ABSTRACTVIPoma of the Pancreas Abstract. A 50-year old man was admitted for evaluation of progressive, chronic diarrhea with loss of weight and recurrent hypokalemia. Eventually, a neuroendocrine tumor of the pancreas secreting VIP (VIPoma) could be diagnosed. The patient was cured by a pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure). With this case, we want to highlight the importance of a structured work-up in chronic diarrhea including thorough history and clinical assessment, laboratory tests and imaging studies.PMID:34465193 | DOI:10.1024/1661-81...
