It's not GAD
Seems like every patient I see has generalized anxiety disorder listed in their chart. Maybe 1/10 or less actually has it. If you actually bother to draw the meaningful distinctions within everything described as "anxiety", turns out most of these people have one or more of PTSD, OCD, social anxiety disorder, Mdd w/anxious distress, bipolar disorder, hell even legit adhd, sometimes acute appropriate situational anxiety (ie...while waiting for a biopsy result...) literally anything else but... Dismissed from DPT program. Chances and Tips for getting into another program?
Hello everyone, I was dismissed from my DPT program because of my mental health issues (Social Anxiety stemming from a birth defect). I tried to juggle bettering my mental health issues at the same time of being a DPT student, but I bit off more than I could chew and was dismissed from my program. I am taking a break to focus on my mental health issues and get to the point where my SA is managed and I learn to accept my appearance. Once I feel like I am ready, I want to reapply for DPT... WAMC? High GPA very low experience
Hello all, I was hoping for your honesty. I have been working on my vet school app and really realized how little experience I have. I concentrated on my GPA and settling in during my first quarter at UC Davis and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit in my second quarter, so I didn’t get many opportunities there. At community college I strongly regret not doing extracurriculars, but I had extreme social anxiety/undiagnosed autism. I was homeschooled K-12 (explains the social anxiety lol) so I’m... M2 just venting...
i think the last time i felt happy about my professional/career life was when i got into medical school. the problem isn't medicine as a profession or learning about it, but more about the people in medicine and the overall environment i've found myself in. the personalities are for the most part so weird (in a negative way), toxic, high-strung; and i have bad social anxiety that magnifies all this. the down-to-earth, laid-back, chill personalities are few and far between. i went to a large... Examples of famous people overcoming mental illness/in recovery?
I am was looking for the "best" examples of famous people who have overcome mental illness, ideally ones that they have spoken about this publicly (and certainly not ones that didn't go on to succumb to their illness like Robin Williams, Marilyn Monroe etc etc) . I find these examples to be particularly salient to teenagers and appreciate any suggestions anyone has. Looking for: MDD Bipolar D/o Social Anxiety Agorophobia OCD (I use Howie Mandell with how he has changed on America's Got... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Treating Social Anxiety/GAD
Student here with a couple questions. 1) When treating Social Anxiety/GAD what do you take into consideration when prescribing medications? (This is after trying CBT) From what I read online first line of treatment is always an SSRI, Remeron, TCA's etc. All of which are usually for depression, OCD, and other issues that seem to be a little more severe IMO. They all can have bad side effects and in the case of Mirtazapine needs a higher dose because too low of a dose causes extreme... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

He was referred by his employer for mild anxiety symptoms which appear performance type social anxiety. He has since starting receiving psychotherapy. The patient was also initially offered Seroquel (only) but was eventually started on Lexapro 5 mg. 4 days after starting treatment the attending psychiatrist commented if he wanted... Talking about anxiety/panic disorder when applying
Hi there! My brother is a doctor and told me to not share my story about how I conquered social anxiety/panic disorder as ADCOMs would view this as potential risk for the future. I truly took the hard road and faced my panic disorder head on and dealing with this hardship is one of my greatest achievements as it is extremely difficult and proves my tenacity, but I don't even want to mention it if it is going to come off badly. I'm currently writing my personal statement for cycle #2 and... Talking about anxiety/panic disorder when applying (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Battling social anxiety in PT school
I have recently been accepted into PT school. I am very excited, but also very nervous that I won't succeed due to my social anxiety. In undergrad I got good grades, but when labs that were not individual were involved I always became very anxious and would make mistakes because of it (which of course annoyed my lab partners). I am aware that PT is a very social job, but I know I can handle it and enjoy it. I enjoyed interacting with patients during my observations and when I worked as a... Do people treat you differently when you ’re a doctor?
Backstory: so I ran into an acquaintance from high school today and surprisingly enough my social anxiety didn’t prevent me from saying hello. She was always pretty lukewarm to me in high school but after she asked what I was up to and I told her I’m applying to med school she seemed to become overly friendly (could even say flirtatious I guess). Her boyfriend works at a pizza place in town (no stalker~I’m friends with him on Facebook. It was weird. So non premed SDNers, did people begin... Back to pre-vet, which step to take next?
Hi everyone, I am 25 years old, non-traditional student. (Short background: went into college straight out of HS in 2011 with the goal of becoming a veterinarian or pediatrician. Failed first semester due to social anxiety/immaturity, dropped out 2nd semester. Worked full-time in food service for 4 years. Went back to community college in 2016 as pre-med, attended 3 semesters (mostly GEs/remedial prereqs) while working part-time, currently have a 4.0 GPA. Took spring 2018 off as I was... Practical advice
Hello all. Just finished my first PT school practical! While I got a great score on it, I got flagged for lack of small talk which could potentially lead to intimidation in a real clinical setting. I knew this was going to be an issue for me since I have social anxiety and small talk has never been easy, but I know I need to work on this so I can become a successful PT. Any advice on how to remediate this issue? I know this isn't an overnight fix and it will require time and practice, but... Practical advice (Source: Student Doctor Network)

social anxiety ruined my medical career
I want to share my story with you. During school, I was a straight A+ student. I did extremely well in school despite my social awkwardness. I was the student who gets very high scores with the least effort. And everybody pushed and encouraged me to go to medical school and that I will do great in it. Eventually, I did, and that was the worst decision I made in my life. I struggled socially in medical school. I didn't have a relationship throughout college, I even rarely talked to girls. I... social anxiety ruined my medical career (Source: Student Doctor Network)
