The Role of Physical Therapy in Multiple Risk Factor Management Poststroke: A Scoping Review
Conclusions: This review highlights the need for better integration of clinical considerations into stroke rehabilitation research as a whole, along with the need for additional research regarding the role physical therapy can play in addressing multimorbidity in individuals with stroke.

Verification of spatial recognition ability of stroke patients required to resume automobile driving
Conclusion] These findings show that spatial recognition cannot be evaluated using paper-based two-dimensional higher brain function tests. To help patients who had a stroke resume driving requires evaluation of three-dimensional spatial recognition ability under circumstances that simulate actual driving situations.PMID:34177108 | PMC:PMC8219603 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.33.455

Effect of the use of a body weight-supported walker on gait parameters in hemiplegic stroke patients
Conclusion] Using a BWS walker may help hemiplegic stroke patients learn to walk more efficiently in terms of their gait speed.PMID:34083884 | PMC:PMC8165362 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.33.434

Brain Function Changes Induced by Intermittent Sequential Pneumatic Compression in Patients with Stroke as Assessed by Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy
CONCLUSIONS: The significantly increased WA values in the frequency intervals III, IV, and V in the MC of patients with ischemic stroke might be related to cortical activity in the MC in addition to increased cerebral perfusion. The decreased LI values in the prefrontal cortex and MC indicated that the ISPC may have had a positive effect on the functional rehabilitation of these regions.IMPACT: This study provides a method for assessing the effects of ISPC on cerebral oscillations, and the results benefit the optimization of ISPC parameters in personalized treatment for the functional recovery of patients with stroke.PMID:...

Clinimetric properties of the SATIS-Stroke questionnaire in the Brazilian population: A satisfaction assessment measure addressing activities and participation after a stroke
CONCLUSION: The Brazilian version of the SATIS-Stroke questionnaire exhibited adequate reliability, concurrent validity, and diagnostic accuracy. Therefore, this is a valid, reproducible measure for the assessment of satisfaction with regard to activities and participation following a stroke.PMID:34030951 | DOI:10.1016/j.bjpt.2021.04.006

Knee joint movement and muscle activity changes in stroke hemiplegic patients on continuous use of knee-ankle-foot orthosis with adjustable knee joint
Conclusion] Setting the knee joint of a knee-ankle-foot orthosis in accordance with the knee joint movement may increase the muscle activity ratio of the vastus medialis from loading response to mid-stance.PMID:33935355 | PMC:PMC8079889 | DOI:10.1589/jpts.33.322

Effect of Exercise Involving Standing Weight Shifting to the Nonparetic Side on an Inclined Surface in the Early Phase After a Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSION: These results suggest that standing reaching exercises to the nonparetic side while standing on an inclined surface could improve lateral weight-shifting capacity and gait ability in participants in the early poststroke phase.IMPACT: This intervention should be incorporated into standard treatment programs focusing on the paretic side during early stroke rehabilitation.PMID:33909896 | DOI:10.1093/ptj/pzab114

An Exploration of Sedentary Behavior Patterns in Community-Dwelling People With Stroke: A Cluster-Based Analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Although unique accumulation patterns were identified, there is not just one accumulation pattern for high sedentary time. This suggests that interventions to reduce sedentary time must be individually tailored.Video Abstract available for more insight from the authors (see the Video Supplemental Digital Content 1, available at: http://links.lww.com/JNPT/A343).PMID:33867457 | DOI:10.1097/NPT.0000000000000357

Telerehabilitation During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Outpatient Rehabilitation Settings: A Descriptive Study
CONCLUSIONS: These results provide new knowledge about to whom and how TR is being administered during the pandemic in outpatient rehabilitation practices throughout the USA. The database assessed was found to be suitable for conducting studies on associations between TR and diverse outcome measures, controlling for a comprehensive set of patient characteristics, to advance best TR care models, and promote high quality care.IMPACT: This study provided detailed and robust descriptive information using an existing national patient database containing patient health and demographic characteristics, outcome measures, and TR ad...
