This study confirms that bone marrow‐derived cells infiltrate the CNS in animal models for stroke and Alzheimer's disease and that peripheral cells can be targeted to treat affected regions of the CNS. Using a myeloablative chemotherapy regimen, the authors have investigated the capacity of bone marrow derived cells to enter into the central nervous system. These cells migrated specifically to sites of injuries in models of stroke and Alzheimer's disease but did not repopulate the entire parenchyma.
