Apixaban versus No Anticoagulation in Patients Undergoing Long-Term Dialysis with Incident Atrial Fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with kidney failure and nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, treatment with apixaban was not associated with a lower incidence of new stroke, transient ischemic attack, or systemic thromboembolism but was associated with a higher incidence of fatal or intracranial bleeding.

Association of Serum Uromodulin with Death, Cardiovascular Events, and Kidney Failure in CKD.
CONCLUSIONS: Higher serum uromodulin is independently associated with lower risk for mortality, cardiovascular events, and kidney failure in white patients with CKD.

Cardiovascular Safety and All-Cause Mortality of Methoxy Polyethylene Glycol-Epoetin Beta and Other Erythropoiesis-Stimulating Agents in Anemia of CKD: A Randomized Noninferiority Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with anemia of CKD, once-monthly methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta was noninferior to conventional, shorter-acting erythropoiesis-stimulating agents with respect to rates of major adverse cardiovascular events or all-cause mortality.

Etiology and Outcomes of Thrombotic Microangiopathies.
CONCLUSIONS: Secondary thrombotic microangiopathies represent the majority of thrombotic microangiopathies. Multiple thrombotic microangiopathies causes are present in one half of secondary thrombotic microangiopathies. The risks of dialysis, neurologic and cardiac complications, and death vary by the cause of thrombotic microangiopathies.

Trimethylamine N-Oxide and Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients with End-stage Kidney Disease Receiving Maintenance Hemodialysis.
CONCLUSIONS: We found no evidence linking TMAO to adverse clinical outcomes in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis with moderate to severe secondary hyperparathyroidism.

Add-On Antihypertensive Medications to Angiotensin-Aldosterone System Blockers in Diabetes: A Comparative Effectiveness Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with thiazide diuretics, calcium channel blockers were associated with a lower risk of significant kidney events and a similar risk of cardiovascular events.

Soluble Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Receptor and Outcomes in Patients with Diabetes on Hemodialysis.
CONCLUSIONS: The association of soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor levels with outcomes persists in patients on hemodialysis. Additional study is warranted to characterize the underlying pathways of that association, which may yield opportunities to develop new therapeutic strategies.

Silent Cerebral Microbleeds and Longitudinal Risk of Renal and Cardiovascular Events in Patients with CKD.

Association of Reduced eGFR and Albuminuria with Serious Fall Injuries among Older Adults.
CONCLUSIONS: Elevated ACR but not lower eGFR was associated with serious fall injuries. Evaluation for fall risk factors and fall prevention strategies should be considered for older adults with elevated ACR.

Risk of Stroke in Patients with ESRD.
CONCLUSIONS: People with ESRD have a substantially higher risk of stroke, particularly women and young people, and hemorrhagic stroke. Future work could investigate effective and safe interventions for primary and secondary prevention of stroke in people with ESRD.

Relationship between Stroke and Mortality in Dialysis Patients.
CONCLUSIONS: Dialysis recipients have high mortality after a stroke with corresponding decrements in remaining years of life. Poststroke mortality does not differ by race.

Race, Ethnicity, and State-by-State Geographic Variation in Hemorrhagic Stroke in Dialysis Patients.
CONCLUSION: Race and ethnicity, or other factors that covary with these, appear to explain a substantial portion of state-by-state geographic variation in hemorrhagic stroke. This finding suggests that the factors underlying the high rate of hemorrhagic strokes in dialysis patients are likely to be system-wide and that further investigations into regional variations in clinical practices are unlikely to identify large opportunities for preventive interventions for this disorder.

Association between AKI and Long-Term Renal and Cardiovascular Outcomes in United States Veterans.
CONCLUSIONS: Veterans who develop AKI in the setting of MI have worse long-term outcomes than those with AKI or MI alone. Veterans with AKI alone have worse outcomes than those diagnosed with an MI in the absence of AKI.
