Reference Ranges and Development Patterns of Fetal Myocardial Function Using Speckle Tracking Echocardiography in Healthy Fetuses at 17 to 24 Weeks of Gestation
Conclusion Our study created Z-score and corresponding centile calculators, 5th and 95th centile reference tables, and corresponding graphs and determined the normal evolution across gestation using multiple somatic growth and age variables between 17 and 24 gestational weeks. These nomograms serve as an essential prerequisite for quantitatively evaluating fetal cardiac contractility and allow for precisely detecting early changes in the fetal heart function. Association of maternal body mass index and maternal morbidity and mortality
Conclusion: Super morbid obesity is significantly associated with increased serious maternal morbidity and mortality; however, cesarean appears to mediate this association. Obesity and morbid obesity are not associated with maternal morbidity and mortality. Adverse Outcomes during Postpartum Readmissions after Deliveries Complicated by Hypertensive Disorders of Pregnancy
Conclusion Chronic hypertension was associated with increased risk for a broad range of adverse postpartum outcomes. Risk estimates associated with chronic hypertension with and without superimposed preeclampsia were similar to preeclampsia with severe features for several outcomes. Nucleated Red Blood Cells as Markers of Perinatal Adaptation in Preterm Neonates Receiving Minimally Invasive Surfactant Therapy
Conclusion Elevated NRBC are associated with elevated FiO2 after MIST and elevated E-PVR. Intrauterine hypoxia may impact postnatal circulatory adaptations and oxygen requirement. Consistency between Impedance Technique and Echocardiogram Hemodynamic Measurements in Neonates
Conclusion Agreement between the IT and ECHO in the cardiac output measurement appeared acceptable. However, the accuracy and precision of the IT approach should be further investigated using a larger sample. Neonatal Antiepileptic Medication Treatment Patterns: A Decade of Change
Conclusion Phenobarbital remains the most widely used neonatal seizure treatment. Levetiracetam is increasingly used as a second line therapy. Increasing levetiracetam use indicates a need for additional study to determine its effectiveness in reducing seizure burden and improving long-term outcomes. Prevalence and Risk Factors for New-Onset Hypertension in Labor
Conclusion One in 3 women exhibits mild hypertension and 1 in 10 develop severe hypertension in labor. Only 6% of patients received treatment for severe blood pressures. This study highlights lack of treatment of hypertension in labor and further investigation into causes and outcomes of intrapartum elevations of blood pressures. Pre-eclampsia and Cardiovascular Disease Risk Assessment in Women
Amer J PerinatolDOI: 10.1055/s-0036-1572536The underlying contributors of many cardiovascular events are often present decades before the onset of clinical symptoms, and the presence of risk factors in early life significantly influences risk of premature cardiovascular disease (CVD). The considerable burden of CVD in women and on health care resources necessitates an emphasis on prevention and early risk screening in women, before the development of the disease itself. The 2011 update to the American Heart Association's Effectiveness-Based Guidelines for the prevention of CVD acknowledges the contribution of the common pr...

The Effects of Maternal Position and Habitus on Maternal Cardiovascular Parameters as Measured by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance
Conclusion Maternal position has no effect on LVSV or CO during the first half of pregnancy. In the second half, however, only normal-weight women exhibit significant changes in cardiac parameters when comparing the left lateral decubitus with supine position.[...]Thieme Medical Publishers 333 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10001, USA.Article in Thieme eJournals:Table of contents  |  Abstract  |  Full text

A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial of Early versus Routine Caffeine in Extremely Premature Infants
Conclusion This pilot study demonstrated the feasibility of conducting such a trial in extremely preterm neonates. We found that early caffeine administration was associated with improved hemodynamics. Larger studies are needed to determine whether early caffeine reduces intubation, intraventricular hemorrhage, and related long-term outcomes.[...]Thieme Medical Publishers 333 Seventh Avenue, New York, NY 10001, USA.Article in Thieme eJournals:Table of contents  |  Abstract  |  Full text
