ConclusionThis study contributes to present understandings of nurses’ and nurse assistants’ roles and functions in inpatient stroke rehabilitation. We obtained insights into nursing staff's beliefs and attitudes about rehabilitation—as well as their own role and function—and furthermore how the latter affects their actions in daily practice.

A 2 ‐year prospective follow‐up study of temporal changes associated with post‐stroke cognitive impairment
ConclusionsThe ongoing changes exhibited by patterns of cognitive impairment provide evidence that consistent efforts are required to achieve positive changes in post‐stroke cognitive function. Our findings may be helpful to develop nursing care strategies aimed at improving cognitive ability and consequently the quality of life of stroke patients.

Parastomal hernia and physical activity. Are patients getting the right advice?
This article draws on a large nationwide survey (2631 respondents) that investigated the physical health and wellbeing of people living with stomas in the UK. It specifically considers the findings relating to parastomal hernia (where additional loops of bowel protrude through the abdominal wall around the stoma, creating a bulge). In this survey, 26% of respondents reported that they had a medically diagnosed parastomal hernia, which is below average when compared with other estimates. Correlates of Perceived Social Support in Chinese Adult Child Caregivers of Parent Stroke Survivors
Conclusions/Implications for Practice: Adult child caregivers with higher levels of mutuality, education, or monthly income; who are fully employed or are retired; who have a co-carer; or who are caring for a father perceived more social support. Nursing strategies and social policies need to be directed to enhance caregiver mutuality and support caregiving efforts.

Nursing care for stroke patients: A survey of current practice in eleven European countries
ConclusionsThe participating European countries comply well with the ESS guidelines, particularly in the acute stroke care, but not all stroke units have reached optimal development in all aspects of stroke care nursing.

Promoting Evidence-Based Practice at a Primary Stroke Center: A Nurse Education Strategy.
DISCUSSION: This nurse education strategy increased RNs' confidence in ability to explain the path from evidence to bedside nursing care by demonstrating how evidence-based clinical practice guidelines provide current evidence used to create standardized order sets. Although further evaluation of the intervention's effectiveness is needed, this educational intervention has the potential for generalization to different types of standardized order sets to increase nurse confidence in utilization of evidence-based practice.

Predictors of quality of life for chronic stroke survivors in relation to cultural differences: a literature review
ConclusionsMost predictors of QoL in stroke survivors were the same in China and the Western countries. However, their QoL might be predicted differently regarding to the individualistic and collectivistic cultural differences.

Age-Group and Gender Differences in Stroke Knowledge in an Israeli Jewish Adult Population.
CONCLUSION: Participants younger than 45 years showed the lowest levels of stroke knowledge. The highest stroke knowledge was found in the 45 to 64 years age group. Stroke knowledge among different age groups was similar in both genders. Educational campaigns aimed at increasing knowledge of stroke among the general population and targeting the younger population are recommended.

The Impact of Nurse Staffing on In-Hospital Mortality of Stroke Patients in Korea.
CONCLUSION: Policies to educate sufficient numbers of nurses and retain them in the field are warranted, especially because medical-cost containment has become a dominant concern in most countries. Further studies are needed to understand the mechanisms and other protective roles of nurse staffing to ensure long-term health outcomes after hospital discharge.
