Occam ’s Razor Versus Hickam’s Dictum in a Presentation of STEMI
A 79-year-old female presented with an inferolateral STEMI on a background of a recent multi-territorial stroke, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, and prior thyroidectomy for thyroid cancer. Percutaneous intervention involved a drug-eluting balloon to the culprit oblique marginal artery and medically managed calcified 80% ostial right coronary artery (RCA). New paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) was noted. Transthoracic echocardiogram revealed a 13x7 mm mobile aortic valve mass with mild regurgitation.

Introduction Hyperthyroidism is a common condition affecting up to 3% of the UK population. Treatment improves symptoms and reduces the risk of atrial fibrillation and stroke that contribute to increased mortality. The most common symptom is weight loss, which is reversed during treatment. Stroke in a Young Man Secondary to Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation and Thyrotoxicosis: A Case Report
We report a case of a male patient with stroke caused by atrial fibrillation (AF) due to thyrotoxicosis. At hospital admission, he presented hypertension and AF. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed a right-side ischemic area. The thyrotoxicosis was confirmed by thyroid function and thyroid scintigraphy that showed goiter with diffuse hypercaptation. The patient was treated with tapazole and total thyroidectomy, and pathological findings suggested Graves ’ disease.
